Rustic Ambiance and Super Food
You cannot miss this if you are coming towards Bangalore from Mysore or vice versa. It’s a pure veggie restaurant which is the best you can get.
The Bangalore-Mysore highway connects Bangalore people to many weekend get-aways and beyond (Mysore, Wayanad, Bandipur, Ooty etc). You start early in the morning or may be a bit late but you can be sure that you will treat yourself with some good food here.
Kamat Lokaruchi is a popular restaurant is conveniently located almost midway between Bangalore – Mysore about 1 hr 30 minutes approximately from both the cities, usually a crowded place but one can get a table in maximum about 10 minutes time, their service is very fast and quick, the staff are courteous and are traditionally dressed (casual North Karnataka attire).
We liked the ambiance which is rustic & well spread serving healthy, hygienic and most of all delicious Karnataka food… stone building which is themed to match a traditional Kannadiga village home… in fact the whole restaurant is open with thatched and clay tile roofing which looks more like a traditional Karnataka village. Staffs are seen wearing dhotis and Gandhi caps which creates a nostalgic feeling.
No flase decors or overtly servile waiters. They are all there to serve a purpose – to feed you to your heart’s content and have you off your way to wherever you are heading. The service is quick in spite of the gigantic crowd which this restaurant attracts and the price is pretty reasonable. Ample Parking Space, shops selling some handicraft items but we did not walk in.
Authentic north Karnataka cuisine is served on a banana leaf. There are two varieties; normal or special. Special gets you a sweet dish and a bhaji (vegetable) extra. It is reasonably priced for a highway eatery. A must visit if you want a taste of great tasting authentic cuisine.
There are several options available for breakfast. The breakfast and the snacks that you get here is really good and very tasty. The Dosa’s are very good here coupled with Filter coffee is a good combo.
Kamat Lokaruchi serves excellent traditional Karnataka food with a complete variety. The steamed idlis wrapped with plantain leaves, fresh sugar cane juice, akki roti, jowar roti, dosa with many variations, puri bhaji is something not to be missed (not for health freaks but only for foodies 😉 all make it an excellent food hub. You could also try their breakfast buffet – worth all the money you pay for it. Lunch is something that is special here. Especially if you like south Indian food (specifically kannadiga food). All sweet lovers should try Antina unde(literally Gum Ball …. 😉 my favourite though – made of dry fruits, Dry coconut, sugar, etc.
They try to steer you towards their buffet breakfast which has unlimited servings at Rs.120… But as usual we opted for a la carte. The rest of the items are also simply superb and the prices are reasonable. The items coupled with Coconut chutney is a must here!
One of those things that makes the journey more cherishable than the destination itself.
